Know Your Rights Training: How Synagogues and Institutions Can Prepare for Immigration Enforcement
Tuesday, April 22, 2025 • 24 Nisan 5785
11:30 AM - 12:30 PMZoomIn order to keep our communities and loved ones safe, we need to understand how to protect our physical spaces.
Join T’ruah for a Know Your Rights training specifically for rabbis and cantors who work in physical community spaces and your building staff and synagogue leadership.
Who is our trainer? We will learn from trainer David Aguilar, NYC Legal Program Manager at Catholic Charities Community Services. We shared a version of this training in person at our NYC Clergy Convening in February. It was extremely useful and tangibly helpful for T’ruah members to understand how to stand in solidarity in practical ways with undocumented immigrants right now — within and beyond the Jewish community.
Who is this training for? Rabbis and cantors who work in physical community institutions — like a synagogue, school, or community service space. Please invite your rabbis, cantors, Executive Directors, facility staff, board presidents, or other relevant partners. That said, all are welcome to level up their knowledge on these important topics. David has expertise in the New York context, but he will be sharing advice that is relevant nationally. He will also share collected resources for questions that vary state by state.
Note for chaverim: We will offer an optional 30 minutes at the end of the event (12:30-1:00 PM PST) for chaverim, T'ruah's rabbi and cantor members, to process the content together and discuss implementing the learning in your communities.
Register here. If you have specific questions for David, please reply here and let us know.
