Ceasefire Circle and Ceasefire Action

The Ceasefire Circle is a Google Group of Or Shalom members concerned about the situation in Israel/Palestine that is centered around education, sharing of resources and communicating about events.

Ceasefire Action is a subset of the Ceasefire Circle that is a smaller, self-selected group of Or Shalom members in the Ceasefire Circle Google Group who want to take action on this issue through Or Shalom. While the Ceasefire Circle is mainly a Google Group, Ceasefire Action meets regularly to plan and execute action, as well as engage in community-building and education.

The smaller Ceasefire Action group will email the Ceasefire Circle with information, events, and reminders/invitations to meetings along with agendas and links to minutes of meetings.

Decisions will be made by consensus of those in attendance at any given Ceasefire Action meeting. Quorum for decisions is 6 people, half of whom must have attended at least 4 Ceasefire meetings to be counted.

Each meeting will have a facilitator and a notetaker. The facilitator will be selected at the end of each meeting for the next meeting and will develop the agenda and publicize it for the next meeting.

There will be time at the beginning of each meeting for connection through a prayer, a poem, or another shared practice and space for people to relate.

Current Humanitarian Effort: Hussam & Raeda

Currently, we are actively supporting Hussam, a young man in Gaza along with his mother, Raeda, who has a kidney condition among other serious health problems. They have been moving around Gaza, trying to stay safe during this two-year war. During an Israeli attack, Hussam’s younger brother was killed and Hussam was shot. He now has shrapnel lodged painfully in his pelvis, severely restricting his mobility and requiring treatments no longer available in Gaza.

The Ceasefire Circle is fundraising to assist with the family’s daily needs such as food, potable water, medicines, warm clothing and bedding. We are also seeking out connections and raising additional funding for their eventual medical evacuation. We invite you to join us.
