Writing our own Grief Songs: A Kinah Workshop
Wednesday, July 30, 2025 • 5 Av 5785
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM331 Cortland AveOn Tisha B’Av, we recite kinnot — elegies, dirges, songs of lament — for the destructions that have befallen our people. However, this liturgy is that it is not static. It has become customary that each time our people face new destruction, our people write new kinnot to lament this destruction, and these kinnot get folded into our Tisha B’Av service.
So join R’ Faryn to write kinnot for our time. In this workshop, we will learn about the history of kinnot, reflect on what is being destroyed in our time, and write the kinnot of now. The kinnot we write will be incorporated into our Erev Tisha B’Av Gathering on Saturday, August 2nd.
