8:00 PM - 10:00 PMThe Chapel, 777 Valencia St, San Francisco, CA 94110Petty Theft, an excellent Tom Petty tribute band, is playing The Chapel (777 Valencia St) on August 17th. Glenn & Julie from the Gen X-ish Chavurah would like to make it an event for the group!
Things you should know...
- They've been together since 2003. There are two kinds of tribute bands: The kind that try to copy the band by note right on down to costumes and players vs. the kind inspired by the music and try to live up to its spirit. These guys are the latter. Here's a video Glenn shot of them doing "Swingin'" a decade ago at Rancho Nicasio.
- The Chapel is a great club venue in the Mission, open since 2012. Glenn saw Tom's keyboard player Benmont Tench do a solo show there. And then half of Petty Theft waiting after the show to meet him!
- Show is 9 PM (doors 8 PM) and tickets are $27 online.

The Gen-ish Chavurah: Were you at the tail end of the glory days of the SNL original cast? Did you care who shot JR? Did you spend time debating with your friends whether Madonna and/or The Go-Go’s were Girl-power icons - or even try to look like them? Were you mullet or frizzy big hair? NEON clothes? Perhaps you owned a device called a Walkman? Oh, wait, did you watch every Brat Pack movie AND memorize the moves to Thriller and the MoonWalk from Billie Jean? Maybe these are some of your memories as a teen or young adult. Join us monthly for a couple of hours of reminiscing, schmoozing, and light eats — and we’ll see where it goes!
